The Estate at River Run

This exquisite Georgian Revival Mansion

offers 22,000 square feet overlooking the James River. The land was purchased in the late 70’s and early 80’s by the Massey family. Designed by Diane Allard Saunders, and interior designer Anne Woods from Charlottesville, VA along with assistant William A. Cobb. Saunders furnished and decorated the Georgian Architectural Style Manor symbolizing the historic 18th century, meant for English royalty.

The Grand Entry Hall offers hand-glazed woodwork. The upholstered cornices in the grand entry hall were drawn directly from Mrs. Saunders's imagination but have all the style and elegance of the 18th century. The 24 carat gold Corinthian columns are hand embellished. The plaster cornice features oak leaf and acorn detail. If you look closely a custom- designed initials of William Blair Massey “WBM” are hand-printed all over the wallpaper as a symbol for himself. The mahogany doors throughout the two-story entry hall with their egg and dart trim date back to Greek and Roman architectural style symbolizing both life and death. The five sets of double doors are quite a show piece transitioning the visitor into the connected spaces.

2019 marked a new beginning for the Estate at River Run, becoming a venue for weddings and private events just outside of Richmond, VA. Today groups small and large gather for private special events in stupendous style. This post is to-be-continued as we will re-visit the mansion, showcasing more of our work here.
